The Institute of Precision Medicine has released an Annual Report for 2019 and 2020. Our report the details major accomplishments of our program and highlights key progress in our four focus areas of precision biobanking, genomics and data analytics, education and outreach, and clinical implementation. Conference Announcement: Advancing Research through Computing

The Pitt Center for Research Computing is hosting their biannual Advancing Research through Computing symposium online on April 6, 2021 with nationally prominent keynote speakers from UC Berkeley and Argonne National Laboratory, as well as speakers from the University of Pittsburgh, and Carnegie Mellon University discussing Advanced Computing in the fields of Materials Design and Precision Medicine. ARC 2021 will also feature a student poster contest with two $500 prizes for Pitt graduates and undergraduates.

Whole Genome Sequencing of Infants in the ICU: The PISCES Study launches in Pittsburgh

A Pittsburgh study to detemine whether the use of whole genome sequencing (WGS) provides a faster genetic diagnosis for infants in the intensive care unit (ICU) population compared to standard-of-care testing is underway within the UPMC health system. In the study, known as PISCES, researchers will examine whether early diagnosis through WGS can lead to better outcomes and reduced costs of medical care.

Precision Medicine Initiative for Commercialization Seeds First Investments

The mission of Precision Medicine Initiative for Commercialization (PreMIC) is to stimulate early-stage commercial translation projects among University of Pittsburgh and UPMC investigators to address major unmet clinical needs through precision medicine-based approaches. PreMIC is a catalyst for big thinking in precision medicine translation – filling the academic funnel with new technologies that will move toward technology licensing and new company formation.

June Pittsburgh Precision Medicine events postponed until September 2021

Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we will be postponing PMWC East (originally scheduled to be held in Pittsburgh on June 4-5, 2020) until September 24-25, 2021. We have chosen to postpone the meeting due to the unprecedented challenges currently faced with the pandemic and to ensure the safety of all participants.
