The Institute for Precision Medicine is hosting the 20th international Precision Medicine World Conference (PMWC) meeting at the Wyndham Grand Downtown, September 23-24th, 2021. PMWC 2021 East will bring to the city many of the leading minds in Precision Medicine – both in industry and academia. This is the perfect chance to glimpse the future of innovation in healthcare. To showcase the groundbreaking work happening throughout the Pittsburgh ecosystem, University of Pittsburgh and UPMC faculty will be presenting including Drs Angus, Yealy, Shekhar, Silverstein, Empey, and Massart.

PMWC 2021 has a diverse line up featuring a two-track program with over 300 attendees, 60 internationally recognized speakers and a biotechnology showcase. The meeting is a unique opportunity to meet Precision Medicine experts from all around the world. Visionaries

include Julie Johnson, one of the pioneers of Pharmacogenomics, and Dr. Tureci and Dr. Sahin, co-founders of BioNTech, the company that created the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, receiving 2021 PMWC Luminary Awards. The meeting will explore the barriers to implementing newborn sequencing efforts in the NICU, provide detailed updates on large-scale population scale genomic initiatives, revie

w recent developments in pharmacogenomics, and outline the increasingly important role that artificial intelligence platforms play in learning healthcare systems.

Prior to the PMWC meeting, the School of Pharmacy will be hosting a one-day symposium on September 22nd entitled ‘Achieving Population-scale Pharmacogenomics’ which willfeature experts at the forefront of pharmacogenomics implementation and highlight the leading role Pitt and

UPMC are playing in bringing pharmacogenomic screening to patients to improve prescribing.
