Dietrich Stephan, PhD
Dietrich Stephan, PhD, is the Associate Director, Population Health and Translational Acceleration at the IPM. Professor and Chair of the Department of Human Genetics at the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health Dr. Stephan's research focuses on population genetics and methods to accelerate the translation of new discoveries into clinical practice. His work moves research findings on the causes of human diseases into diagnostic tests to identify those diseases early, often before they strike, in order to help physicians and patients make better decisions. In addition to diagnostics developments, Dr. Stephan's therapeutic development programs have resulted in the first human trials for a number of new and effective therapies, including drugs for diseases of the brain, such as autism spectrum disorder, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis Lou Gehrig's disease), and pediatric and adult cancers. Dr. Stephan was the founder, president and chief executive officer of Silicon Valley Biosystems, a diagnostics company dedicated to helping physician’s improve patient health and outcomes through an understanding of the human genome.
